About
Nearly thirty years of coaching, a decade in cybersecurity leadership, and a home base where heat isn't optional.
My coaching career didn't start with ultrarunning. Nearly thirty years ago, I coached children and Special Olympics athletes — and that's where I learned the lesson everything else is built on: no two people move through the world the same way. The same drill landed differently in every athlete I worked with. Some needed a different cue for the same movement, some needed more time, some needed the whole plan rebuilt around a body that didn't move the way a textbook assumed it would. A flat, one-size-fits-all plan never held up across a group like that, and it doesn't hold up across ultrarunners either. Every plan I build starts from who's actually in front of me.
I spent over a decade in cybersecurity leadership before earning my UESCA Ultrarunning Coach certification. That background shapes how I coach: I build training plans the way I'd build a security program — assess the real risk, prioritize what matters, and adjust as conditions change.
I'm based in Goodyear, Arizona, which means heat isn't a training variable I read about — it's the default. Summer runs here start before dawn to beat triple-digit heat, and racing in the desert Southwest means heat management is never theoretical. That's shaped how seriously I take heat acclimation, hydration strategy, and teaching athletes to recognize their own warning signs before a hot day turns into a real problem. I'm active in the Phoenix trail running community with ties to the Aravaipa race circuit, and I train on the same desert trails I coach on.

Coaching Philosophy
The same discipline I used assessing threats professionally, applied to getting you to the finish line healthy.
Assess
Identify what could actually derail your race — overtraining, poor fueling, weak mental prep, an untested gear setup.
Prioritize
Build the training block around your real risk factors and your actual life — not a flat, cookie-cutter plan.
Adjust
Reassess as conditions change — the same way a live risk program never stays static.
That belief traces back to the lesson I learned coaching Special Olympics athletes decades ago: no flat, cookie-cutter plan holds up across different bodies, schedules, and goals — every runner needs a plan built around who they actually are.
Every training block starts by identifying what could actually derail your race, and building safeguards before those risks become race-day failures.
Communication matters — as a professional speaker, I make sure you understand the why, not just the workout.
See this framework in action
I built a free tool that runs the same assess-prioritize-adjust process on your own race prep — the Ultra Event Readiness & Risk Assessment. Ten checkpoints, a full remediation plan, and a printable PDF report.
Who I Coach
Right now, I work with beginner and intermediate ultrarunners.
Whether this is your first ultra or you've been humbled by one before, I get it — and if you're racing anywhere hot, that's exactly the kind of risk I spend the most time on. If you want a coach who treats your training block like a risk assessment built around you, not a template, take a look at the packages below — or get in touch first if you've got questions.
